Neuropsychological evaluation involves testing people to check for problems with cognition through a series of questionnaires and/or simple tasks.

‘Cognitive screening’ is one part of neuropsychological evaluation, which can help healthcare providers to quickly find out about a patient’s cognitive abilities and determine whether they need more tests and/or to take steps to address the cognitive problems.

At present, there is no routine screening in MS clinics to identify problems early. As a result, mild and moderate cognitive problems are often missed and untreated.

Having cognitive screening as part of routine practice would help identify cognitive problems sooner and enable clinicians refer people with MS to appropriate support and services.
